K Surveying
Regardless of which method you choose, perform the following steps:
1. Set the receiver to RTK Base mode.
2. Set the port to which the radio is connected. This is the port out of which the
base receiver will send the raw data to the radio. If you followed the
connection procedures above, the UHF radio will be connected to serial port
B of the receiver. The GSM modem will use port D, which is the default.
3. Select the data format. This sets the format in which raw data is being
transmitted by the base. The options are RTCM, CMR, and DBEN. The
default is DBEN.
4. Select the frequency of raw data transmissions. This sets how frequently raw
data is transmitted by the base radio. The default is 1 Hz (1 second).
By default, you will also collect raw data for post-processing.
Enter Base Station Site ID, Coordinates, and HI Into
Base Receiver
From the discussion of base station position earlier in this chapter it should be clear
that an accurate base station position is critical for an accurate RTK survey. In
addition, to accurately compute the rover position, the rover also needs to know the
accurate base station antenna HI to perform an antenna reduction. Both the base
station coordinates and the antenna HI are transmitted to the rover along with the
base receiver’s satellite data or corrections. It is very important that these values are
accurate, and have been accurately entered into the base receiver during setup.
Entering the base station Site ID will help the rover to identify from which base
receiver it is receiving data.
This task can either be accomplished using the handheld computer running the Field
Application software or the front panel display.
Regardless of which method you choose, perform the following steps:
1. Enter the 4-character Site ID.
2. Enter the antenna height in meters.
3. Enter the antenna radius in meters.
4. Enter the known position of the base station survey mark.
Configure the Base Data Link
The procedure for configuring the data link depends which data link you are using, a
UHF radio or a GSM modem. Either task can be accomplished using the Front Panel
User Interface or the Field Application software on the handheld computer.
