Z-Max Surveying System Operation and Applications Manual

Radio - Radio Antenna

This section only applies if you are using a radio or a combination of radio and cellular
as your data link. If you are using only a cellular modem, this section is not required.

The base radio requires an antenna to transmit GPS receiver raw data to the rover.
Therefore the radio antenna must be connected to the radio. The radio and the radio
antenna are generally mounted to a separate tripod. Many radio tripods are designed
with a telescoping pole that can be vertically extended to improve radio range. The
radio antenna connection will differ depending upon which radio you are using.

Thales U-Link Transmitter

The transmitting antenna connects directly to the Thales U-Link radio without a
cable. The advantage of a direct antenna connection is that there is little signal
power loss between the transmitter and the antenna. Attach the antenna by
screwing the antenna to the antenna connector as shown in Figure 3.8.

The radio is mounted to the telescoping pole using the radio mounting bracket
that is part of the radio system. Hook the flange on the radio into the mounting
bracket, and attach the mounting bracket to the telescoping survey pole as shown
