WIRE CONTINUITY TEST

Set the multimeter to the ohm scale and touch the
meter leads together, the meter should read 00.0 and
the meter alarm should be audible. This validates the
meter and meter battery.

Separate the leads of the meter and note the meter
reading. Different meters will show different types of
readings for an infinity reading.

1. Identify and locate the wire to be checked on the 

appropriate wiring diagram (Section 10L).

2. Touch the leads to the end of the wire, there 

should be a reading (continuity) on the multimeter 
and an alarm (Figure 10C-2).

RESISTANCE TEST

Electrical resistance is the ability of a material to
oppose the flow of current. In some situations resis-
tance is desired, such as in a resistor. In other situa-
tions resistance can mean a failure in a circuit.

Resistance is measured in Ohms 

(Ω)

. Using a multim-

eter the resistance in a circuit can be tested
(Figure 10C-2).

1. Set the multimeter to the 

Ω

 (Ohms) scale.

2. Connect the positive (+POS) lead to one terminal 

on the wire or switch. Connect the (-NEG) lead to 
the other end of the wire or switch terminal.

3. Read the 

Ω

 (Ohms) on the multimeter.

Contacts of a switch or a wire should have less 
that 0.5 

Ω

 (Ohms) reading.

If 

Ω

 (Ohms) readings are above 0.5 the switch or 

wire is questionable.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The following precautions will reduce electrical prob-
lems:

1. Make sure all terminals and connections are clean 

and tight.

2. Check the interlock system, fuses, and circuit 

breakers regularly. If the interlock system does not 
function properly and the problem cannot be cor-
rected, contact an authorized Jacobsen dealer.

3. Keep the wiring harness and individual wires away 

from moving parts to prevent damage.

4. Make sure the seat switch harness is connected 

to the main wiring harness.

5. Check the battery and charging circuit.

6. Do not wash or pressure wash around electrical 

connections and components.

NOTE:

Use of Dielectric grease on electrical connections
is recommended.

 

CAUTION

Always place the ignition switch in the OFF position
and remove the negative battery cable before
inspecting, performing maintenance, or repairing the
electrical system.
