raise the water temperature of
the pond during the winter. It is
only important to keep a small
area of the surface ice-free.
This device is effective to -20°F

square feet of surface area is
recommended.
For larger ponds, multiple
de-icers may be used in
different parts of the pond.

Energy Usage
The TetraPond pond de-icer operates on 300 watts which is
thermostatically controlled. This means that it turns on-and-off
as needed to save energy. The 300 watts is necessary to work
effectively in temperatures as low as -20°F (-28°C).
Positioning of De-icer
The TetraPond
®
De-icer floats on the water and can be positioned
anywhere in the pond. It is recommended to put it near the
center of pond but close enough to the edge to allow the user to
safely reach it without stepping on the ice.
WHEN TO USE THE POND DE-ICER
It is recommended to put the de-icer in the pond before the pond
freezes over. This will allow the electrical cord to be hidden
under the ice after it forms. Consider placing the pond de-icer in
the pond in the late fall and leaving it unplugged until ice starts
forming on the pond.
The pond de-icer may be placed in the pond after it has frozen
over, but it may take time before it melts through the ice. It may
be necessary to melt a hole in the ice using boiling water to
create a hole for the pond de-icer. DO NOT BREAK HOLES IN THE
ICE. Breaking holes in the ice cause shock waves that can harm
or kill pond fish.
PREPARING YOUR POND
FOR WINTER
A good clean up of the pond is important before pond
ices over.
Remove as much accumulated debris, leaves and sludge
from the surface and bottom of the pond. This will reduce
the amount of decaying debris in the pond which can be
harmful to the fish and look unsightly.
Trim back and remove dead or dying aquatic plants.
Bring any exotic fish such as fancy goldfish inside for the
winter.
Koi and goldfish are cold water fish – and are well adapted
for winter survival.
Disconnect and store UV clarifier indoors.
Drain or remove any filters that could become frozen from
w i t h i n . The expansion of ice inside some plastic filters may
cause physical damag e . Consult your filter’s user manual.
Use a pond de-icer when the ice begins to form
on the pond.
FISH CARE IN THE WINTER
Use a transitional wheat germ based food in the
fall and spring when water temperatures are
between 50°F and 39°F (10°C and 4°C).

guide your feeding regimen.
Never break holes in the ice. The
resulting shock waves can harm or
kill the fish.

TetraPond® 300 Watt Pond De-icer Limited Warranty
Tetra guarantees this product will be repaired or replaced free of charge
for three years from the date of purchase if it fails to work because of
faulty material or workmanship. This guarantee is subject to the
following terms:

Should it become necessary to make a claim under guarantee within
28 days of purchase, please return this product in its original
packaging, with proof of purchase, to the store where it was purchased.

After 28 days and within three years of purchase, return the product
directly to Te t r a , Consumer Serv i c e s , 3001 Commerce Street,
B l a c k s b u r g , Virginia 24060-6671. Warranty claims will only be
considered if accompanied by a proof of purchase. Ensure the product
Cis adequately packaged.

Tetra’s decision on all questions relating to alleged defects and repair
shall be conclusive.

This warranty does not invalidate your statutory rights, but to
preserve the full benefits, the registration card should be completed
within 14 days and returned to Tetra.

Replacement product will be given on an exchange basis and will either
be new, equivalent to new, or reconditioned. All customer returned parts
or products that we replace become the property of Te t r a .

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, nor any
deterioration suffered through overloading, improper use, negligence or
accident Similarly, any modification made by the purchaser to the
appliance will invalidate the guarantee.
7.
Tetra will not accept liability for compensation for any loss or damage
whatsoever sustained by the purchaser (except injury to person).
