telecommunications distributor. Plug the tester into Port 2 of the SLSS while the
unit is powered. Verify that the Tip/Ring polarity is not reversed.
If you are experiencing a problem with the modem disconnecting and tester is
unavailable, reverse the tip and ring of the incoming line.
Routing Delays
Some telephone systems cause a momentary glitch as soon as the telephone
number is dialed. This can interfere with the routing code sent by the Polling
Controller. If this occurs, insert a delay (i.e., comma) between the last digit of the
telephone number and the routing code.

Fax Routing Problems
Some faxes do not send the calling tone (CNG) the SLSS needs to route fax calls.
If you have difficulty receiving faxes on one of the SLSS ports and are using the
unpublished factory transfer codes (default), change the transfer code for the fax
port to a two-digit code (e.g., 22) so the caller can route faxes manually.
Modem Lock Up
If a modem or another microprocessor-controlled device gets “stuck” off-hook,
use the auxiliary relay to reset it. (The relay is only available with models M-395-B,
M-395-D, M-395-E, M-396-B, M-396-D, and M-396-E.) You can send command
*31# to pulse the relay on (i.e., close the contact) for ten seconds or command
*11#1# to turn the relay on, thus cycling the power and resetting the device. (Please
see page 32 for specific instructions.)
