2.1 PIXIS-XF Camera

• CCD Array
PIXIS-XF currently offers a 1024 x 1024 array with 13

m x 13

m pixels or a
2048 x 2048 array with 13.5

m x 13.5

m pixels. When used with an X-ray
scintillator screen and a 1:1 fiber optic, this system can effectively provide X-ray
photon-counting capability with up to 16-bit dynamic range.
• CCD Chamber
The vacuum-sealed CCD chamber protects the CCD from condensation and
contamination.
• Fiber Optic
The PIXIS-XF fiberoptic tapers are bonded to the face of the CCD arrays with
Teledyne Princeton Instruments' fiberoptic-coupling technology. The direct
bonding to the face of the array eliminates the need for an intermediate
fiberoptic faceplate or an oil layer between surfaces, thereby increasing
sensitivity.
• Cooling
Dark current is reduced in PIXIS-XF camera systems through thermoelectric
cooling of the CCD arrays. Cooling by this method uses a multi-stage Peltier
cooler in combination with circulating air or coolant. Due to CCD
size/packaging differences, the lowest achievable temperature can vary from
one PIXIS-XF model to the next. Please refer to the specific system's data sheet
for cooling performance.
