3.2 Wi-Fi security
Introduction
We strongly recommend you to protect all wireless communication between any Wi-Fi client and your DWA0120 with a
wireless key. This ensures that:
• Only clients that use the correct Network Name (SSID) and wireless key can connect to the Wi- Fi access points of your
DWA0120.
• All data passing through the Wi-Fi access points of your DWA0120 is secured by adequate encryption.
Security modes
The DWA0120 offers two types of security mode:
• Security modes that work with a
Pre-Shared Key
(PSK) that you can choose yourself. The following security modes
support the use a pre-shared key (ordered by descending security):
WPA2 PSK
This mode provides the highest security. This is the
default and recommended security mode
.
WPA+WPA 2 PSK
Choose this option if not all of your Wi-Fi clients support WPA2 PSK, or if you are not sure. Wi-Fi clients that support
WPA2 PSK will use WPA2 PSK, the others will use WPA PSK.
WEP
This is the oldest security mode. We recommend you not to use WEP as it has been proven to be extremely
vulnerable.
For more information on how to configure one of these security modes, see
Configuring WPA(2) PSK encryption
• Security mode that work with a
RADIUS server
.
This system is typically used for business networks. Wi-Fi clients will authenticate to a specific Remote Authentication
Dial In User Service (RADIUS) server. This RADIUS server then provides the wireless key that must be used to encrypt
its data. The RADIUS server regularly updates this key at a specified interval. The the following security modes support
the use a RADIUS server (ordered by descending security):
WPA2
WPA+WPA2
For more information on how to configure one of these security modes, see
Configuring WPA-Enterprise encryption
