Adjustments and operations
General information:
During the backhoe operation, a continous and smooth cycle of movement should be
established.
Operators without any prior experience must become familiar with the controls first
before digging or they should dig shallowly.
A well-trained operator can operate the backhoe with more efficiency and can avoid
overloads and premature wear of the equipment.
Service planning:
Before you start digging, it is advisable to inspect the area and have a detailed
knowledge of the job that will be done.
Check whether there are underground lines and be aware of the conditions of the
ground. Define the best place to dump the removed earth, thus avoiding later problems.
Position the backhoe in such a way as to minimize repositioning the unit and to
maximize digging efficiency.
Once the unit is positioned, lower the stabilizers to the ground. The tires should still be
supporting most of the vehicle weight with the stabilizers relieving only part of the weight,
and mainly acting to give the unit a wider base for increased stability and to keep the unit
from moving or bouncing with the backhoe use.
If the tractor is equipped with a front blade or shovel loader, they should also be
lowered.
The vehicle should at no time be supported by the stabilizers and loader with any of
its wheels off the ground.
When operating the unit on a delicate surface (such as concrete, or stone work, or
on sandy, loose, or soft ground), place plywood under the stabilizers to help distribute the
load over a wider area (See figure on the next page).
Operation techniques
Never activate the hydraulic lifting lever (third point) of the tractor to lift the
backhoe. After hitching, the hydraulic lifting remains rigid (inoperative),
both for digging and transportation.
