32 Basic operation
Making a call
To make a call from your radio, you may be able to either:
■
use whole-number scrolling
■
dial the call using the shift key and scroll keys, or
■
dial the call using the alphanumeric keys on a keypad
microphone.
Making a call by whole-number scrolling
Depending on your fleet size, whole-number scrolling may be
the quickest way to select a number to call. For more
information see
"Whole-number scrolling in trunked mode"
on page 28
.
To make a call by whole-number scrolling:

Press the scroll keys
and
until the number you wish to call is
showing on the display.

Press the PTT key.
For example, a radio has a scroll list that consists of
presets
1
and
2
, individual calls
200
and
201
, and group
calls
900
and
901
. You can use
and
to move
through the list in the following order:

2
>
200
>
201
>
901
>
902
. Once the display shows
the number you wish to call, press the PTT key.
Your radio may also be programmed so that the scroll list
is continuous, and you can use
to move from
1
directly to
902
.
Dialling a call using the shift key and scroll keys
1
Press the shift key
to begin
dialling. The first character is selected,
and flashes on and off.
