Power Supplies

Coral FlexiCom 6000 Installation Manual

Con

l Power Su

pply Unit

The system may include up to three PS-ATS units for redundancy.

The Hot Standby system is designed to allow

hot insertion

and

hot swaps

of a PS-ATS

unit, such that, if one of the PS-ATS units malfunctions, system operation — call

processing and maintenance is not interrupted because the second unit alone can

continue to power the control shelf.

A PS-ATS unit is installed on the right side of the control shelf (two slots, PS2 and PS3

are provided for the units on the right side, see

Figure 6-6

) in an upright position.

The PS-ATS unit on the left side is installed upside down in slot PS1.

Installing the Power Supply Units

Two Power Supply Units are normally shipped in the Common Control Shelf already

fastened into place. Verify that the two power supplies are installed in slots PS2 and

PS1 on the bottom corners of the Control shelf. There is an empty third power supply

slot in the upper right hand corner (slot PS3). This slot is for future Coral

Configurations.

To insert the PS-ATS unit(s), grasp its handle with one hand.

Verify that the power supply is oriented correctly:



When installing the PS-ATS in either slot

on the right side,

in slots PS2 and

PS3, ensure that the Fail and Power LEDs are located at the top of the unit,

see

Figure 7-8

for correct card orientation.



When installing the PS-ATS

on the left side

of the control shelf, in slot PS1,

ensure that the Fail and Power LEDs are at the bottom of the unit (i.e.

install the unit upside down), see

Figure 7-9

for correct card orientation.

Align the unit with the card slot guides and forcibly push the power supply

straight into the card slot. Resistance is felt as the multi-pin connectors on the

power supply meet the mating connectors on the backplane and engage.

Force the PS-ATS completely into its slot until the front panel of the power

supply is flush with the front frame of the card cage. If more than considerable

resistance is encountered, remove the power supply and examine the

connectors for bent pins or interfering debris.
