Terminal Problems
Table 8-1 covers some common terminal problems and what actions to take.
Table 8-1. Terminal Problems
Symptom Possible Cause Action
Terminal does not power up Battery not installed or fully
charged. Verify that the battery is
installed in the terminal.
Charge the battery, either in the
terminal or separately for a full 2
hours.
Power supply is not plugged in. Verify that the power supply is
connected properly to the
terminal and plugged in the wall
socket.
Battery is not secured. Fully engage the battery latch.
Cannot see screen Terminal not powered on. Press the Power icon on the top
of the screen.
Contrast not adjusted properly. Press and hold the contrast icon
to increase, tap to decrease.
Touch screen not working Display not properly
calibrated. Recalibrate the screen through
the control panel program.
Scanner does not come on
when trigger pressed Scanner driver is not loaded. Verify that scanner driver is
loaded on the terminal.
Check application software to
ensure that scanner driver is
properly referenced.
Scanner does not decode a
bar code Bar code is unreadable. Verify that the bar code is not
defective, i.e., smudged or
broken.
Symbology not enabled. Verify with the programmer that
the application is designed to
perform scanning.
