Advanced deployment
Companies hosting e-commerce solutions, or those offering access to services by untrusted users often
have additional, directly connected network segments. These networks are protected LAN segments,
but are not given the level of trust that a true internal network enjoys. For example, one of these
networks might be used for customer-facing applications such as Web and mail servers, or for
connections to partner companies. This scenario might look like the topology shown in
Figure 5-3 .
