If the NetBackup 5220 is powered on, the chassis cover should not be
removed for more than 5 minutes. Leaving the chassis open for a longer
time may result in decreased air flow and increased component
temperatures.

Symptoms

Control panel readout indicates fan problems

Device management screens indicate fan problems.

Possible Causes

Cause 1: The power is not turned on

Cause 2: The fan module or the connection cables are not properly

connected

Cause 3: The cable connecting the mainboard and the power conversion

board is not properly connected

Cause 4: The fan(s) are faulty

Fault Diagnosis

A flow chart to help diagnose red fan on/alarm indications is planned for a
future release of this document.

Procedure

Cause 1: The power is not turned on

Fans are powered by the NetBackup 5220 power. Therefore, if the main power
is off, the fan on/alarm indicator is red.
