Use
The nib is perfect for drawing detail and fine lines, it is a ‘soft’ nib
suitable for drawing different widths of lines. Use slightly more
pressure for a thicker line.
The nib is delicate and can easily be ‘sprung’. If the nib stops writing
despite ink in the feed, turn it upside down and press down gently
down on the paper with the tip of the nib.
The nib will gradually wear and need replacing over time, depending
on use.
Replacing the nib
The nib can be replaced with a ’maru’ type dip-pen nib, such as those available from the Swan pens shop.
To replace:
•
Grip the exposed end of the nib with a pair of needle-nosed
pliers or nail clippers and pull out.
•
Wearing a pair of gloves, align the new nib and push it in as
far as it will go.
•
Put the tip of the nib on a firm surface such as a pad of
paper and push gently till the nib is fully in, see picture.
•
Clean the nib of any residual oil by inserting it in soapy
water and filling and emptying a few times. Repeat with
clean water to rinse.
