WARNING:

Cycling can be dangerous. Bicycle products should be installed

and serviced by a professional mechanic. Never modify your bicycle or
accessories. Read and follow all product instructions and warnings including
information on the manufacturer’s website. Inspect your bicycle before every
use. Always wear a helmet.
•  An improperly modified frame, fork, or component can cause you to lose

control and fall. NEVER MODIFY YOUR FRAMESET

•  Attaching incompatible clamping devices to a fork can lead to product

failure causing a loss of control. Consult your dealer if you are not sure
a device is compatible

•  Inspect your bike before every ride and do not ride a bicycle with any

cracks or other damage

Important information about use and maintenance of bicycles is contained
in the Surly Bicycle Owner’s Manual, available online at:
www.surlybikes.com/safety.
SERIAL NUMBER: _____________________________ Write down the serial
number for your Surly bike immediately. The serial number is marked on the
bottom of your frame’s bottom bracket shell. In the event of theft, the serial
number is crucial to the identification and return of the stolen bicycle. Serial
numbers are also important when contacting us with any questions about
the product.

Intended Use

Compatibility

Frame Specification - For current frame specifications visit
www.surlybikes.com and the product page.

WARNING:

Do not use forks exceeding your frames maximum axle-to-

crown dimension, see www.surlybikes.com and the product page for posted
maximum axle-to-crown requirements. Exceeding the maximum axle-to-crown
will void the frame warranty and may result in damage to or failure of the
frame, causing serious injury.

WARNING:

Always check for 6mm of clearance between the fork and the

tires, fenders, and any accessories. If accessories are mounted to the
underside of the downtube, fully compress suspension frames and forks,
then check for 6mm of clearance through the entire steering range.

WARNING:

Failure of a front rack or entanglement of cargo or straps in

either wheel could stop the rotation of the wheel, causing a loss of control or
crash that could lead to serious injury. If you have a front rack mounted to your
frame, check the security of all mounting hardware and fasteners before every
ride, and retighten to manufacturer specifications if necessary. Never exceed
the load limits of a front rack or carry passengers. Make sure your cargo and
straps do not interfere with the function of your bicycle BEFORE attempting
to ride. Ensure even cargo distribution, and confirm lights and reflectors are
not obstructed.
NOTE: This frame is only compatible with quick-release fenders. Do not use
this frame with fenders that lack a quick release feature that will release the
fender in case an object becomes lodged in your wheel or spokes.

Inspection

Before every ride carefully inspect your frame for signs of fatigue. If any frame
part shows signs of damage or fatigue, consult your dealer or replace the
frame before riding the bicycle. Important information about the useful life
of your bicycle frame may be found in the Surly Bicycle Owner’s Manual,
available online at: www.surlybikes.com/safety.

WARNING:

Improper installation of bolts may lead to product failure, causing

serious injury. Do not exceed specified torque values. Periodically inspect bolts
and retighten if required.

Care and Maintenance

Keep your frame clean. Dirt and road grime lead to oxidation and fading of the
finish, and they make it hard to do a thorough inspection. Dirt will accelerate
any abrasion of the paint that comes from rubbing, such as places where the
cable housing touches the frame. In extreme cases, this type of abrasion could
remove frame material.
For more specific information regarding the care and maintenance of this
product please visit www.surlybikes.com or contact us at 1-877-743-3191.
If your bicycle was exposed to moisture during a ride, thoroughly dry the
bicycle before storing it. If water got inside the frame, tilt the bicycle to drain
the water. If necessary, remove the seatpost and turn the bicycle upside down.
This is especially critical if there is a large amount of water inside. If water
freezes inside your frame, the expansion of the ice can crack and rupture
the structure.

Storage

When your bicycle is not being ridden, store it where it will be protected from
the elements. Moisture or road salt may cause a metal frame to corrode.
Before storing your bicycle for an extended period of time, clean and lubricate
the frame with a frame wax, polish, or protectant. Do not store the bicycle near
electric motors, as ozone from motors destroys paint. Before riding the bicycle
again, follow the pre-ride checklist in part C of the Bicycle Owner’s Manual to
be certain it is in good working order.

Condition 1 and Condition 2 as well as rough trails, rough unpaved
