The connector is divided into a Signal Segment (S1-S7) and a Power Segment (P1-P15). The segments
can be cabled up to 1 meter (39 inches). The contacts have 30

inch (1.27

staggered contacts to facilitate “hot plugging”.
Notes
:
1. While the cable and backplane usage mate order is listed in Table 8 and Table 9, hot plugging is
not supported for cabled applications (cable connector receptacle).
2. The mate sequences all assume a zero angular offset between connectors.
3. The Signal and Power cable segments may be separate.
4. Pins P1 and P2 are for the alternate 3.3V power supply; Pins P8 and P9 are for the standard 5V
power supply.
5. Pins P5 and P6 are included to address future product requirements and may be on the Power
Segment receptacle as an option.
6. Pin P11 is a bi-directional pin that at power application is monitored for spin-up control. It then
becomes an open collector output to annunciate the activity indicator.
7. Pin P13 is used for the optional

SATA uses a protocol transmitted over a 7-pin cable. Figure 14 identifies the 7-pin signal segment. Table
8 lists the signal definitions. The 7-pin signal segment includes 3 grounds, 2 transmit and 2 receive pins.
