TESTING THE A-9 OFF-PEAK / TIME CLOCK CIRCUIT
OPTIONAL UNBALANCED 3-PHASE CIRCUIT
A-9 Circuit:
Two elements
Two thermostats
Two high limits
3 wires
Note:
The standard
A-9
circuit is
designed as an
interlock
circuit –
only one element at a time can
receive power.
If the water heater has been wired
for simultaneous operation, the
red wire on upper thermostat
terminal 4 in the diagram will be
moved to upper ECO terminal 4.
Warning:
Attempting an unauthorized
field conversion will double the
amperage draw and may
overload the wiring to the water
heater resulting in a fire hazard.
Warning
Maximum amperage draw if
wired for simultaneous
operation is 48amps in
accordance with the National
Electrical Code. Internal wiring
may further reduce maximum
amp draw.
The
A-9
circuit may also be used
for
three phase power
. Three
phase power is typically used in
commercial applications. Using a
residential water heater in a
commercial application will result
in a reduction of the tank warranty
and the parts warranty.
