minimize distractions
Many people uncon-
sciously create dis-
tractions as they
speak. Talking with
their mouths full,
hands covering
mouths, as well as
unexpected, sudden
head and body movement all make it harder
to understand. Make certain you can see their
faces, expressions and gestures clearly as
they speak to you.
Background sounds can also be distracting.
As you are learning to select and sort specific
sounds, it is wise not to attempt conversations
while
watching
the TV, for
example.
