Overboard Discharge
At all times, the shut off valve must be positively secured in a
way that presents a physical barrier to valve use and prevents
all discharges. Adequate means include the use of padlock,
non-releasable wire-tie, or removal of the valve
handle. Federal law
prohibits the discharge of untreated
sewage from vessels within navigable waters of the United
States,
which include territorial seas within three miles of
shore and most bays and estuaries. Check with your local
authorities or Coast Guard for any rules which apply to the
area where you do your boating
