General description

The DL83x is a bright Red LED display with three 8 inch tall digits. There are 3 models
available: the DL831 has one data in port, the DL832 has two data inputs, and the
DL834 which has 4 data inputs. This manual applies to all models referenced as
DL83x, and the specific model will be noted where differences are applicable.
The DL83x accepts data and displays this speed from Sports Radar’s SR3600 radar
gun, and DT100/200 series speed detectors (collectively called radar units herein). Do
not connect the DL83x display to other equipment, damage to the display or other
equipment may occur.
When a speed is received it will be displayed in the units (MPH or Km/h) that was sent
by the radar unit and the proper MPH or Km/h indicator will light, and the last speed
recorded will remain in the display until a new speed is recorded.

Connecting Power

Connect the 12VDC power transformer (supplied) into a standard household 115VAC
outlet, and plug the DC plug into the 12VDC jack at the bottom right on the DL83x
display. Upon power-up, the display will count down; 999, 888, 777, - - - to – 000, and
the SPEED DATA SOURCE, MPH, and Km/h indicators light, then all indicators go
out, and the speed display shows 0.

Connecting speed input(s) data source

The speed data source is either the SR3600 radar gun, or the DT100, or DT200 speed
detectors.
To connect an SR3600 radar gun, use a standard CAT5 data cable (SR part number
CABLE 25’, or CABLE 50’) from the data port on the SR3600 to a SPEED DATA
PORT on the DL83x.

Three digit display

Power input

SPEED DATA SOURCE indicators, 1, 2, 3, or 4 will light
up indicating which input port gave the highest speed.

Mph and Km/h
indicator will light
up depending on
the units that the
Radar unit sent..

Data input(s)

NOTE: DL831 has 1, DL832 has 2,
and DL834 has 4 data inputs

Tripod mounting nut (the same nut
is provided on the top (not shown)

Heavy duty steel
frame

To connect a DT100 or 200 detector, simply connect the Power/Data cable into a
DL83x input port.

Note that power from the DL43x display will feed through and power up the radar gun
or Detectors, so when a DL43x display is connected, there is no need to supply power
to these units (reference the operating instructions of the radar device for more
details).

Multiple speed inputs (DL832 and DL834)

The DL832 and DL834 displays can accept multiple inputs and will display the highest
speed received from whichever input provided the highest speed. Inputs can be
simultaneous; that is if 2 or more inputs occur at the same time, the display will receive
them all, and calculate which was the highest and display that speed. A “SPEED
DATA SOURCE” indicator will light up showing which input gave the highest speed
(reference figure 1). The number (1, 2, 3, or 4) that lights up corresponds to the
SPEED DATA PORT that that speed came in on.

MOUNTING the DL83x

The DL83x display has 2 hanging brackets on the back and a standard ¼-20 top and
bottom mounting nut for various mounting options.
The hanging brackets can be used for mounting the display flat to a wall much like
hanging a picture.
The top and bottom mounting nuts are a standard ¼-20 thread type that can be used
to attached to a sturdy tripod using Sports Radar’s  table top stand on the bottom nut,
or hanging the display via the top nut using Sports Radar’s Wall Mount to hang the
display at various viewing angles.
If using a tripod, the tripod should be a heavy-duty type capable of supporting the
weight of the display, and have a wide base so as not to tip over, especially in windy
conditions. Do not use a tripod with the removable “shoe” type mounting head, as
these are typically not sturdy enough.

VISIBILITY:

The DL83x utilizes high bright LED’s, which provide good visibility for viewing indoors,
or in shaded outdoors ambient lighting.
Keep in mind that light sources such as the LED’s used in the DL83x display can be
“washed out” by direct sunlight, and visibility will be diminished considerably. Keeping
the viewing face of the display out of direct sunlight can compensate for this condition.

NOTE:

The DL83x is an electronic device and should be kept clean and dry. The faceplate is
durable, however the LED light sources can become damaged if the face is hit with a
ball or other object. Please use care when mounting the display, and do not allow it to
fall or be dropped, damage can occur. Always disconnect power to the display when
not in use. The power transformer is intended for indoor use, and should not be used
outdoors or allowed to get wet. Water can short out the transformer and cause a
potential electrical shock hazard capable of causing permanent bodily injury or death.
The Data ports on the DL83x are for connecting Sports Radars equipment only, do not
connect other equipment to these inputs, can cause damage to the equipment and/or
the DL83x.  Use care, common sense, and have fun!
