OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
ENGLISH
We recommend to use a chain purchased from SPARKY
authorised service centre or a specialised shop.
Chain specifications:
Model
91 VG (OREGON) or similar
Pitch
3/8"
Gauge
0,05” (1,3 mm)
Number of drive links
56
Switching on:
Remove the chain sheath;
Prior to switching the machine on, ensure there are
not any objects in contact with the chain and nothing
could get into contact with it;
Grip the saw firmly by the front and rear handles;
Push the safety button 11 down and then pull to the
end the ON/OFF trigger 10 (Fig. E);
ATTENTION:
During operation hold the trigger 10 FIRMLY!
Switching off:
During normal operation stopping the machine is
achieved by the ON/OFF trigger.
Release the ON/OFF trigger to stop the chain and
rotor;
After the chainsaw has been switched off, the motor
is still rotating for about 5-8 sec. Re-starting is possible
before the motor has come to a rest, but
IT IS NOT
RECOMMENDED!
ATTENTION:
Always hold the machine with both hands
while the chain is still moving.
Automatic chain lubrication:
Remove the reservoir cap 8 (Fig. F);
Fill the reservoir with the recommended oil for
chainsaws (SAE 30);
Avoid pollution of oil while filling the reservoir;
Place the cap back;
Wipe the spilled oil (if any) with a cloth;
Chain lubrication is carried out automatically during
operation;
Check the oil level periodically during operation
through the oil-level indicator 7 and add oil if necessary;
Never operate the chainsaw without oil to prevent
rapid chain wear.
The automatic chain lubrication is with adjustable
flow. Adjusting is performed by rotating in the
necessary direction the pump button, positioned
on the bottom side of the machine (see fig. on the left).
It s recommended that the pump flow is maximum
when cutting dry wood, and minimum - for raw wood.
Auto-stop chain brake:
Chain stop is carried out by quick-stop automatic
system actuated in the cases of severe rebound or if
the operator looses his balance.
Stopping the chain by actuation of the front guard:
- The chain brake is actuated when the front guard is
pushed either by the operator ’s hand or in the case of
severe rebound (the result of the inertia activated front
guard);
- Return the front guard in its initial position with the ON/
OFF trigger released, so the machine could be re-
started.
ATTENTION:
Rebound:
Sudden upward/backward motion of the
guide.
Rebound may occur upon involuntary contact of the
front guide quarter with an object.
Avoid using the front guard to stop the machine.
Testing the actuation of the auto-stop chain brake
We recommend to perform this test always before
starting operation with the machine.
Unplug the cable from the socket and move the
guard forward;
Press the ON/OFF trigger. It should move unrestricted.
With the trigger switch in OFF position and the front guard
pushed forward, plug the cable into the socket. Press
the trigger switch 10 - the machine should not operate.
If the saw starts operation - the auto-stop chain brake
does not function properly and must be repaired
immediately in SPARKY authorised service centre or by
an authorised agent.
Operating the chain saw with a faulty auto-stop
chain brake is forbidden.
Practical advice
We strongly recommend that first-time users train sawing
under the super vision of skilled operators.Take
precautions against unintentional touching the ground,
wire fence or bushes with the chain.
When operating on sloping terrain always stand from
the higher side.
Logging (Fig. G):
Place the log on a saw horse or another appropriate
device, to provide the possibility for turning the log and
to fasten steadily the log to the saw horse if achievable.
In case the log is placed on the ground, take
precautions the chain cannot contact the ground;
It is obligatory that the operator and the saw horse
(cradle) are in a stable position;
Always start a cut with the chain running;
First cut down the log one third of the diameter, then
turn the log over and cut again to meet the first cut;
Felling trees (Fig. H)
Forecast the direction of falling (consider the tree
slope and the distribution of branches); for an upright
tree (max. 5% slope) it is possible to choose any
direction. It is obligatory to consider the direction and
force of the wind;
Pre-plan a safe exit from falling trees zone (marked
with the arrow on fig. M);
Do not plan an exit through the dangerous areas (1) The
safe zones are marked with 2.
From the side, chosen for the tree to fall, make a
horizontal cut (1) to 1/3 of the tree diameter, then cut
down diagonally from above (2) to make a notch of
about 45°. Remove the notch;
Make another horizontal cut (3) on the opposite side
3-5 cm higher the first cut. With the chainsaw teeth
leaned against the trunk, cut in a circular motion,
causing the guide to pivot;
