Precautions

Introduction

Safety

• The UPA-D3 models for use in the USA and Canada require a 100 VAC to 120

VAC power supply. The European model requires a 220 to 240 V AC power
supply.

• Be careful not to damage the power cable by placing or dropping heavy objects

on it. It is dangerous to use the unit with a damaged power cable.

• If the unit will not be used for a long time, disconnect the power cable.
• When disconnecting the power cable, grasp the plug, not the cable.
• Do not disassemble the unit
• Do not remove the cover.  There is a danger of electric shock from the internal

parts.

• Do not spill water or other liquids on the unit, or allow combustible or metallic

materials to enter the cabinet. Foreign objects can cause failure, fire, or electrical
shock.

• Do not obstruct cooling vents with other units, cloth or other obstructions. Doing

so may cause overheating.

• If the unit malfunctions or if a foreign objects falls into the cabinet, disconnect

power immediately and call your Sony dealer.

Installation

• Avoid placing the unit in a location subject to

- mechanical vibration
- high humidity
- excessive dust
- direct sunlight
- extremely high or low temperature

• Do not place a heavy object such as a monitor on the unit.
• Do not use other electronic equipment near the unit. The digital image processor

will not work properly when placed in a strong electromagnetic field.

Condensation

Do not expose the digital image processor to wide and sudden changes in
temperature. If it is moved from a cold room to a warm room, or kept in a room
with a heater that produces a large amount of moisture, condensation may form
inside the unit. This may damage the unit. If condensation does form, turn off
power to the unit and leave it off for about one hour.

Location

To prevent internal buildup of heat, leave room around the digital image processor
for air to circulate through its cooling vents.

Cleaning

Clean the cabinet, panel and controls with a soft dry cloth, or a soft cloth lightly
moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of solvent, such as
alcohol or benzine, which may damage the finish.

• Gooi de batterij niet weg, maar lever hem in als

KCA.

• Bij dit produkt zijin batterijen geleverd. Wanneer

deze leeg zijn, moet u ze niet weggooien maar

Preparation

Preparation

The UPA-D3 is connected to the modalities through an ethernet line and to the
printers through the SCSI interface.
Before connecting the computer, see “Important safeguards/notices for use in the
medical environment” on page 2.

Notes

• Turn off power to each device before attempting to make any connections.
• Connect the AC power cord last.
• Grasp the plug at the end of the AC power cable, and firmly insert it into the

socket.

• For details of how to connect to the ethernet line and printers, refer to the

instruction manuals supplied with peripheral equipment.

• Firmly insert the SCSI cable connector into the connector on the unit. It is

properly connected when it clicks into places.

• Keep the length of the SCSI cabling as short as possible. If operation of the SCSI

interface is unstable, insert a SCSI booster between the unit and printers.

• Use the SCSI addresses 1 to 6 (ID number) for the printers connected to the unit.

Do not use 0 or 7.

• Do not attempt to use NETWORK 10BASE-T and NETWORK 10BASE-5 at the

same time. Connecting to both connectors at the same time may damage the
internal circuits.

• Connect printers and other peripheral equipment to the same AC power line as

the UPA-D3. Connecting them to different AC power lines may cause unstable
operation because of differences in potential between power lines.

For details on how to set SCSI addresses, termination, and other settings, refer to
the instruction manuals supplied with the printer.
