Even when you’ve maxed out the reach
of your telephoto zoom lens, you can still
get closer with Precision Digital Zoom.
Delivering up to 10x magnification of the
central area of the frame, this convenient
feature works with any E-mount or A-mount
lens, including fixed-focal length lenses.
White balance control for
evoking the right mood
Control the color of photos and movies by
adjusting white balance. Add a charming
warmth to a candlelit moment, pump up
the violet in a brilliant sunset, or inject a
soothing blue calm to a mountain lake.
Nine presets, two custom settings and a
color temperature scale help you choose
the proper white balance. You can also
select Auto for lifelike colors no matter
what the scene.
P/A/S/M modes for unsurpassed
creative flexibility
NEX-5N offers the same level of artistic
freedom as other advanced-class cameras
thanks to P/A/S/M modes. Program (P),
Aperture priority (A), Shutter-speed priority
(S), and Manual (M) exposure modes let
you control the look of photos and movies.
Confirming focus with
the Peaking function
Make sure your subject is properly in
focus with the Peaking function. This
detects the area where focus is sharpest
then highlights it for confirmation. You
can change the sensitivity of the Peaking
function as well as highlight color.
Manual focus, fast and
easy with MF Assist
Take the hassle out of focusing manually
with MF Assist. This function enlarges the
portion of the composition on which focus
is being performed, making it a snap to
obtain razor-sharp focus. Choose from two
magnifications—4.8x or 9.5x—depending
on the subject. MF Assist is a great aid for
macro photography or when shooting at
large apertures.
1200-zone metering that
never disappoints
Advanced 1200-zone metering delivers
precise exposures, deftly handling the
most difficult lighting situations with ease.
Employing a sophisticated scene analysis
algorithm and BIONZ image processing,
the system evaluates light levels and color
distribution, then calculates exposure to
suit each image. And for easier metering,
you can assign the AE lock function to a
custom key.
Stylish, ultra-compact flash
to brighten any occasion
NEX-5N really shines with the included
external flash. Simply attach it to Smart
Accessory Terminal 2, flip up the head and
you’re ready to go. It has a Guide Number
of 7 (ISO 100/meters) and an angle-of-
view that provides coverage for a 16 mm
lens. Power is supplied by the camera so
there’s no need for batteries.

Anti-dust system that drastically

Dust may enter the camera when
changing lenses, which can impair image
quality. To solve this, NEX-5N has a new anti-
dust system that keeps dust off the optical
filter in front of the image sensor. When
the camera is turned off, the filter vibrates
ultrasonically to shake off dust, resulting in
reduced spots on images.

Enjoy your photos and movies to the max
with NEX-5N’s playback features. Flick
the screen to browse content, or use the
control wheel. You can enlarge images for
closer inspection, and the built-in speaker
lets you listen to audio in movies. Even
Sweep Panorama images can be viewed
on the camera. Other features include
index view for viewing content by date and
various slideshow styles.
