Overview
1) Ethernet is a registered trademark of Xerox Corporation.
The MAV-2000 Multi Access Video and Audio Server
can provide a highly flexible video-and-audio server
system with various channel configurations in use with
optional BKMA-2010 input/output processor boards.
By connecting multiple MAV-S2000 HDD (hard disk
drive) array units, one-channel video with eight-
channel audio can be recorded and reproduced as an
AV file with RAID (Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive
Disks) technologies.
When recording, the server sends the component serial
digital (SDI) signal (where the video signal has been
compressed and encoded) to the connected HDD array
units via the SBX (Serial Bus eXtension) interface.
When reproducing AV files, it provides data sent from
the HDD array units via the SBX interface as a
component serial digital (SDI) signal (where the video
signal has been obtained by expanding and decoding
the data).
This server can be set and controlled from an external
computer or editing unit.
Features
This server features the following:
High-quality video compression with input/
output processor boards
Video compression conforming to a subset of the
MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile @ML enables high-quality
compression of video signals.
Video data are compressed for 30 Mbps, 40 Mbps, or
50 Mbps with GOP N=1 (Intra) structure.
Multiple ports
By installing six sets of the BKMA-2010 I/O processor
boards, SDI signals of up to twelve ports can be
processed.
Each port is equipped with SDI (4:2:2 video and
embedded audio) input and output for one-channel
video and eight-channel audio as well as AES/EBU
input and output for eight-channel audio.

External control of AV files
Jog, Var (variable) and Shuttle control of AV files
from an external editing unit is possible.
Jog: –1 to +1-time speeds
Var: –1 to +1-time speeds
Shuttle: –500 to +500-time speeds
For Shuttle, a Shuttle playback system with no frame
loss is employed.
A variety of input/output routes for flexible
system configuration
• Enables data transfer via Ethernet
1)
.
• Equipped with Ethernet, VS-BUS and RS-422A as
standards.
• Outputs status data.
RAID unit expansion
Parallel connection of up to eight RAID units for
bandwidth expansion and daisy-chain connection of up
to five units each for capacity expansion are possible.
Thus, a maximum of forty units can be connected.
Recording of 510 hours at maximum
The recording time depends on the data rate and the
number of HDD array units.
When recording is made at the data rate of 30 Mbps
using MAV-S2000s (HDD: 18GB version) with
maximum expansion (8 units by 5 units, 40 units in
total), recording (NTSC) for 510 hours is possible.

Power backup
The power block consists of three units of the same
type, thus maintaining normal operation even if one
unit is shut down.
Future compatibility with DTV
19-inch rack mountable
The server can be used in an EIA-standard rack.
