About auto focus

 

ˎ

The unit does not support auto focus.

 

ˎ

Manual focus from the camera or remote controller is supported. 

Enable the focus servo of the lens beforehand.

About auto lens aberration control 

(ALAC)

 

ˎ

The unit is ALAC compatible. If the ALAC effect is not visible, 

check whether the lens supports the ALAC function or check that 

the chromatic compensation function of the camera is not turned 

off.

About the lens name and software 

version reported to the camera

 

ˎ

The unit reports the following as the lens name to the camera. 

- Lens name while lens is attached 

- Model name of the unit when lens is not attached

 

ˎ

The version of the unit is reported as the lens software version.

Attaching/Detaching

Attaching/detaching precautions

Set the power switch of the camera to OFF.

 

ˎ

When attaching or removing the unit, do not insert this unit or the 

lens at an angle. Also, do not touch or knock the internal lens.

Attaching the shoulder adaptor/lens 

support

  Attach the two ø15 rods 

 to the shoulder 

adaptor (option).

  Attach the shoulder adaptor to the camera. 

For details about attaching, refer to the operating instructions for 

the shoulder adaptor.

  Attach the lens support to the ø15 rods.

Attaching the unit to the camera

Follow the instructions in the operating instructions for the 

camera. This section describes a PXW-FS7M2 example.

  Remove the mount cap from the camera side of 

the unit.

  Align the positioning index marks 

 and 

and attach the unit to the camera.

  Turn the lens lock ring of the camera 

counterclockwise to secure the unit in position.

  Remove the mount cap from the lens side of the 

unit.

  Align the center pin of the lens with the lens 

mount positioning notch 

 of the unit, and 

insert the lens.

  Hold the lens, and press the lens lock lever 

down to secure the lens in position.

Tip: The lens lock lever can be prevented from moving by placing 

the lens mount rubber stopper in the position shown in the 

diagram.

  Orient the lens support mounting shaft, and 

insert into the lens.

For lenses where the mounting shaft cannot be attached directly, 

attach a lens holder to the lens, and insert the mounting shaft into 

the holder.

  Turn the lens support mounting shaft lock lever 

and ø15 rod lock lever to secure the lens 
support in position.

  Connect the DC OUT connector of the extension 

unit (XDCA-FS7 or CBK-FS7BK) to the DC IN 
connector of the unit using the supplied DC 
cable.

  Connect the lens cable supplied with the lens to 

the LENS connector.

  Push the lens cable into the cable clamp.

To detach

Remove in the reverse procedure of attachment.

Precautions when Shooting

 

ˎ

Do not attach anything (teleconverter etc.) between the unit and the 

lens.

 

ˎ

Depending on your lens, the actual distance may differ slightly 

from the distance scale of the lens.

 

ˎ

When shooting with the unit, the minimum focal distance may 

increase.

Precautions when using lenses

 

ˎ

Set the image circle setting of the camera to Super 16mm 

equivalent. On PXW-FS7 series camcorders, set Base Setting 

>Imager Scan Mode in the System menu to 2K Center to set Super 

16mm equivalent.

Precautions relating to the lens status 

display

 

ˎ

The unit has a built-in 1.23× optical magnification system, but the 

markings on the lens for iris value and focal distance are reported to 

the camera. However, only iris values up to F16 are reported.

 

ˎ

The effective aperture of the attached lens will be a darker value 

than the displayed value.

To operate auto iris on the lens

 

ˎ

After attachment, configure the following settings before starting 

use. Enable operation using the IRIS switch/button of the lens.

 

ˎ

Set the IRIS switch of the attached lens to AUTO.

 

ˎ

On PXW-FS7 series camcorders, press the IRIS button to enable 

Auto Iris.

About closing the iris

 

ˎ

The iris cannot be closed from the camera.

 

ˎ

When the iris is closed using the iris ring of the lens, F16 is 

displayed in the viewfinder of the camera.
