Thank you for purchasing this fine Sonance product. By
manufacturing numerous products specifically designed to
upgrade the performance and operational capability of any
system, Sonance is strengthening its commitment to excellence
in system performance and product design. Sonance is leading
the way in developing viable solutions for the most common
and bothersome system design challenges consumers and
installers face daily. Collectively labeled A/V Automation, these
devices will improve and simplify any audio/video system in a
multitude of ways. Automatic switchers, equalization devices,
zone amplifiers, and adaptors of all kinds make up the host of
"little black boxes" from Sonance. Contact your authorized
Sonance dealer or representative for more information on all
the A/V Automation. Sonance also offers the largest selection of
high fidelity in-wall and in-ceiling speakers in the world.
Consult Sonance literature or your Authorized Sonance Dealer
for more information on the wide variety of speakers, sub-
woofers, amplifiers, switchers, controls, cable, and other cus-
tom installation products available from Sonance.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION: Read all of these instructions before you operate
and save instructions for later use.

BASIC CONCEPT

The audio amplifiers in most televisions, even monitors,
usually deliver only a few watts -- not enough to properly drive
external speakers connected to the set. The ASAP1 amplifies
any local sound source (like a TV), delivering 20 watts per
channel (RMS), and provides flawless automatic switching
between the local TV and a remote house stereo system. When
connected to both, the ASAP1 enables the room's speakers to
play  the  house  system  normally, and  then  switch  to  the  TV
sound whenever the TV is on.

PLACEMENT

The ASAP1 is designed to operate completely automatically
and is housed in a compact chassis that can be mounted out of
sight. The unit can be placed horizontally on its rubber feet.
When used with a TV set, it may be convenient to hide the unit
on the back or side wall of the cabinet or bookshelf (not on the
TV itself). A wall hanger bracket is supplied with the ASAP1 to
aid in this installation. Mount the ASAP1 vertically with the
heat sinks on the top. As with any other power amplifer, allow
for adequate air circulation around the unit and do not mount
it in direct sunlight or near a heat source such as hot air ducts
or radiators.

DO NOT PLUG THE ASAP1 IN UNTIL ALL OTHER CONNEC-
TIONS ARE MADE. MAKE SURE ALL SOURCE AMPLIFIERS
BEING CONNECTED TO THE UNIT ARE OFF.

INPUT CONNECTIONS

There are two source inputs. The Default, or A, input is for the
remote (house) music system which will play whenever the
local source is off or completely muted. These inputs are at
speaker-level. Connect the remote (house) music system here.
The Sensing, or B, input is for the local source component such
as a TV, CD player, tape player or portable stereo.Whenever this
local source is turned on and there is an audio signal present at
the B inputs, the ASAP1 automatically switches itself into the
circuit amplifying the local signal and driving the room loud-
speakers. The B inputs have both speaker-level connections
and line-level connections (RCA jacks). Use either one to con-
nect to the local system. If you use the speaker-level inputs, use
bare wire and strip only enough wire (1/2") to fit into the slot
in the terminal. Before inserting the wire, twist all its strands
tightly to prevent strays that could cause a short circuit
b and - terminals! If you use the line level inputs, run
RCA patch cords from the variable outputs on the TV set or
other local source. If the local source has both line level and
speaker level outputs use the line level outputs.

VIDEO TRIGGER

The B input relay may also be activated by the video trigger.
This is a composite video input (RCA jack)  which allows the
ASAP1 to stay locked on to the local TV even when the audio
signal is muted for an extended period of time. Run a single
RCA patch cord from the video out jack on the TV to the video
trigger input on the ASAP1. Note: The video jack is for trigger-
ing purposes only; video signal switching is not possible.

OUTPUT CONNECTIONS

Connect the local loudspeakers to the Speaker Out terminals on
the back of the ASAP1. Use bare wire and strip only enough
wire (1/2") to fit into the slot in the terminal. Before inserting
the wire, twist all its strands tightly to prevent strays that could
cause a short circuit b and - terminals!

USING THE ASAP1

Connect the ASAP1 to an unswitched AC outlet. Power up the
rest of the system and proceed with the adjustments below.
