6.5 Oil supply unit SA/B
6.5.1 General notes
The oil supply unit is generally maintenance-
free, though visual and acoustic checks should
be carried out at regular intervals. In visual
inspections, emphasis should be placed on
detecting possible leakages, loose parts or
altered cable routing and, in acoustic inspec-
tions, emphasis should be placed on any
unusual sounds that the pump or its electric
motors are making.
6.5.2 Switching the gear pumps
The oil supply unit consists of two electrically
driven gear pumps. One of these serves as
a feed pump and the other one serves as a
standby pump. The engine manufacturer's
operating instructions specify which of the two
pumps of the oil supply unit is to be used as
the standard feed pump. Due to the neutral
position of the 3-way directional control valve
(
1
) (factory setting), lubricating oil is present at
both pumpunits with an admission pressure of

The two pressure switches attached before
the pumps are activated. When removing one
of the two pumps, switch over the control-
ling cam (

valve (

) as shown in Figures 13 to 14. The
change-over lever (

turned 90°, and lowered before the actual
change-over procedure is performed by turn-
ing another 90°.
