A stack of newspapers arrived in Frankfurt an der oder on 19 August 1911 – by
aeroplane. That was the moment, 102 years ago, when a genuine sensation
occurred. The transport by air of the Berliner morgenpost, an hour faster than
by car, was the moment that air freight was born. It is impossible to imagine a
world without air freight today – a world without exotic fruits, letters, urgent
replacement parts or life-saving medicines. Everything that is urgent or
valuable is transported by plane to reach its recipient quickly and safely. just
as engines keep aircraft in the air, air freight keeps the global economy
running.
dynamic, exciting, innovative and always fascinating – air freight is the fastest
and perhaps most emotive way to connect the global economy and people
across continents. A new chapter for air freight in germany opens this year, as
Lufthansa Cargo receives its first Boeing 777 freighter. With the most modern
and efficient air freighter in its class, Lufthansa Cargo is opening the door to
the future, and flying a plane that excites not just logistics experts but also
aviation fans the world over.
