6.3.1 Internal external mail server
The e-mails contain fault messages and system reports from the central communication
unit and the devices on the KNX network.
Clarify if the web server OZW775 should send e-mails to an internal mail server (LAN,
intranet) or to an external mail server (example below for external mail server only).

Prerequisites for sending e-mails from web server OZW775 to a PC/laptop with e-mail
reception:
•
The web server OZW775 (central communication unit) is integrated physically and
logically in the network.
•
The web server is connected to an internal or external mail server
1)
.
•
For the external mail server, an e-mail account was requested and opened at the
ISP
2)
.
•
The data points are configured (IP address, IP subnetwork address (subnet mask),
default gateway (= DSL router), DNS server, mail server).
1)
Rather than mail server, we sometimes also speak of outbound mail server or SMTP server, as the
central communication unit can only send e-mails (outbound), and as the SMTP transmission protocol
is used for sending data via Ethernet (SMTP: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol).
2)
ISP stands for Internet Service Provider, as used in this document.
