EEPROM
Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory
EEPROMs are often used where individual bytes of data (e.g. configuration data or runtime
meters) change over time and must be stored safely in the event of a power failure.

Definition in accordance with EMC law:
EMC is the capability of a device to work satisfactorily in the electromagnetic environment
without causing electromagnetic interferences that are unacceptable for other devices
present in this environment.

Firmware
Firmware is a type of software that is embedded in a chip in electronic devices in contrast to
software proper that is stored on hard disks or other media. These days, the firmware is
mostly stored in a flash memory or an EEPROM.
The firmware mostly contains elementary functions to control the device, as well as input and
output routines.
