SIMATIC PCS 7 OSx 4.1.2 Operator

2.4

New_Primary Command

With only one OSx station, use the

New_Primary

command if the station has

lost its role information in the database for some reason.

For multiple-station systems, use the

New_Primary

command to assign a

station to be primary. This command is only selectable if the station has no

active primary in its database, which can happen if the station loses

communications with the primary (the primary goes inactive). This can also

occur if either the address or the name for the primary are incorrect, or if

two separate stations have been accidentally designated as primary.

option under the

Role_Change

command on

page 2-10

The software ensures that these commands are mutually exclusive except

for one situation: the primary has failed and any other stations on the

system are not out_of_service. If you select an inactive station with the

normal role, both

New_Primary

and

Role_Change

are available. This allows

you to take an inactive station out_of_service prior to removing it from the

system, or to run diagnostics.

If an alarm occurs in the controller when there is no active primary on the

system, the alarm icon and the alarm summary line do not flash. However,

the system writes the alarm to the alarm log. The operator needs to check

the alarm log for new alarms after a role change involving the primary.

Choose an active station to become the new primary. You can only designate

an inactive station to become the new primary if there are no active stations

on the network.

When you use the

New_Primary

command to designate a station as the

primary, the system may log a message like the one shown below. You can

safely ignore this message.

to confirm the command, the system dismisses Network Setup when you
