SMS (Text Messages)
You can use the SMS function with your
Gigaset S44 handset.
Requirements:
u
The Calling Line Identification must be
enabled for your phone line.
u
Your network provider must support
SMS in the fixed network (information
is obtainable from your network pro-
vider).
u
You are registered with your service
provider for sending and receiving text
messages.
Text messages are exchanged between
SMS centres that are operated by service
providers. You have to enter the SMS cen-
tre through which you want to send and
receive in your unit. You can receive from
any
of the entered SMS centres when you
have registered with your service provider.
Your text message is sent through the SMS
centre that is entered as the active send
service centre (page 34). Only one SMS
centre can be the active send centre at any
one time.
The SMS menu only contains the entry

if no SMS Service Centre is

An SMS may contain up to 1224 char-
acters.
u
If it has more than 160 characters or
large picture data volumes, the mes-
sage is sent as a linked SMS (up to eight
SMS with 152 characters each).
Please note:
u
Every incoming text message is sig-
nalled by a single ring (ringtone as for
external calls). The text message is lost
when you pick up such a "call". Have
the first ringtone for all external calls
suppressed to avoid ringing (page 53).

If your phone is connected to a PABX,
read page 35.
u
To receive text messages you must be
registered with your service provider.
