3.1. Introduction
This section provides information necessary for proper setup and operation of various methods used to
control the 3PCI. These methods are:
1. Internal manual control of power output
2. Temperature
controller
3. Remote manual control (only) with a potentiometer
4. Auto/manual control with a controller and potentiometer
5. On/off
control
6. Controlling several 3PCIs connected in parallel.
3.2. Internal Manual Control of Power Output
The 3PCI should be tested and operated with an adequate load since an open output will have line
voltage at the load connections.
For the following procedures, measurements of the output voltage should be made with an analog
voltmeter or a digital voltmeter that reads true rms.
Warning!
Hazardous voltages exist at the 3PCI output terminals and at the load when the input
voltage is connected–even when the 3PCI is set to deliver zero output by any of the control methods
described in this section. The line input fused disconnect or circuit breaker must be “open” or “off”
(including at the load) to perform maintenance of any kind.
Prior to shipment the 3PCI unit is configured at the factory according to the customer’s requirements. If no
requirements are specified, the standard unit is configured for 4-20 mA operation into a 250
Ω
impedance.
