Opening Asta
Insert Opening / Closing Crank (#9) into the appropriate hole near
the bottom of the mast. Rotate the Crank clockwise with the right
hand. As the umbrella opens, move the Runner (#7) up the mast
with the left hand. At the desired angle of tilt, lock the Tilt Lock
Knob (#6) by rotating clockwise.
Important:
1.
If on the initial rotation of the Crank there is resistance to
opening, do not force. Gently pull the umbrella rib ends
apart and outwards to ensure they are not tangled, then
continue winding the crank.
2.
Do not overwind the crank handle - stop winding when
the canopy is fully open.
3.
The umbrella may be rotated while open but be careful if
the wind is tending to turn or lift the canopy.
4.
In windy conditions, check the umbrella for excess
movement and if necessary, adjust the slide so that the
canopy is horizontal.
Closing Asta
Loosen the Tilt Lock Knob (#6) and slowly lower the runner while
simultaneously turning the Crank (#9) anti-clockwise with the right
hand.
When the umbrella is closed against the mast, secure the Velcro tie
around the umbrella and mast to hold it closed.

Additional Instructions
1.
Protective Sleeve.
When not in use, tie the fabric band
around the umbrella and side-post, then slip the unzipped
Protective Sleeve over the top of the umbrella.
2.
Optional LED light.
The central runner features a drop-
down spigot to which the Shelta ’Flying Saucer’ LED light
may be attached.
3.
Safety.
Never leave the umbrella unattended while open.
Weather conditions can change without warning and strong
gusts of wind may cause the umbrella to fall over or to break
away from the mounting.
4.
Sun Protection.
The fabric on this umbrella is rated at
UPF50+ and provides excellent protection. However on high
UV days there can be significant reflected sunlight from
sources such as windows and water for which Shelta
recommends the use of protective clothing and sunscreen.
Erecting the umbrella
1.
Remove the umbrella / mast assembly from the box. Ensure
the Rotate Lock Pin (#10) is removed from the mast.
2.
A two person lift is necessary to place the lower end of the
umbrella Mast (#8) over the end of the newly installed Stub
Mast (#12). When the mast is vertical, gently lower it down
the length of the stub mast.
3.
Use the Mast Rotate Handle (#11) to rotate the umbrella to
the required rotate position.
4.
Fix in this position by inserting the Rotate Lock Pin (#10)
through one of the 12 holes at the top of the Stub Mast.
Ensure that the Rotate Lock Pin is held by the locking device
on the side of the Mast.
