Once the steam function is no longer
required, place a suitable container under
the steam nozzle and turn the rotary
control to the

 position. Wait until

steam is no longer emitted.

General Care and Cleaning

Remove the plug from the wall socket and
wait until the appliance has cooled down.

–  To clean the steam nozzle each time aft er

use, place a suitable container underneath
it and turn the rotary control to the

 position.

–   Wipe  off  the milk frother with a damp

cloth once it has cooled down. It should
be frequently removed for thorough
cleaning;  ensure, however, that the
appliance has suffi

  ciently  cooled  down

before the frother is removed and cleaned
with hot soapy water.

–  To remove any remaining water from the

water container, wait until the appliance
has cooled down, remove all other
accessories and unscrew the lid. Pour out
the water through the water fi ll opening.

To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not
clean the appliance with water and do not
immerse it in water.

Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning
solutions.

–   Th

e exterior housing may be wiped with a

damp, lint-free cloth.

–   Th

e glass carafe, fi lter holder, fi lter insert

and drip tray may be cleaned in warm
water using a mild detergent;  do not clean
these parts in a dish-washer.

Descaling instructions

Depending on the water quality (lime
content) in your area as well as the frequency
of use, all thermal household appliances using
hot water need descaling (i.e. removal of lime
deposits) on a regular basis to ensure proper
functioning.

Any warranty claim will be

null and void if the appliance malfunctions
because of insuffi

  cient descaling.

When the brewing process takes longer than
normal, it is likely that descaling is necessary.

–

Mix four cups of water with a
commercially available descaling solution
(follow the manufacturer’s information
for the right concentration).

–  Pour the mixture into the water container.

–  Let the appliance run through one or two

brewing cycles (as described in the section

Making espresso

) with the fi lter  holder

fi tted, but without using the fi lter  insert
and without putting in any coff ee.

–  As soon as the glass carafe has half fi lled,

set the rotary switch to the

-symbol.

–  Place a suitable container underneath the

steam nozzle and turn the rotary control
to the steam symbol (

). Activate the

steam nozzle for around 2 minutes.

–   Th

en set the rotary control to the

-symbol, and allow the descaling solution
to take eff ect.

–   Aft er approx. 15 minutes, turn the rotary

control back to the espresso symbol
(

) and allow the water container to

drain completely before turning the rotary
control to the

 position (place a

suitable container underneath the steam
nozzle).

–  To clean out the system aft er  descaling,

operate the appliance twice more with
clean water only, activating the steam
nozzle for approx 2 minutes aft er  each
cycle.

–  Rinse the screw-in lid, fi lter holder and

glass carafe in clean water.

Do not pour descalers into enamelled
sinks.
