Antenna Separation

Reflection Survey

When moving transmitting and receiving antennas along a reflection survey line, it is important
to maintain a fixed separation between them. Antennas mounted on a cart, tow frame or one-
person handle have a fixed antenna separation. When antennas are not fixed, use a rope or
measuring tape to maintain the fixed antenna separation (see

to display a screen shown in Figure 6-23:

to set the desired separation values. It

will cycle through common pre-set values. Press

Custom Value

to enter a specific antenna

separation value.

In general, the recommended antenna separation should equal the antenna length. For
example, for 100 MHz antennas (which are one meter long), the separation should be set one
meter apart. If the antenna separation is too small, receiver electronics

may

be overloaded by

the transmission signal resulting in data clipping, depending on what type of transmitter is used.
For convenience and practicality, it is permissible to use a separation of 0.5 m for the 100 MHz
antennas when a pulseEKKO PRO transmitter is used.
