Recharging Using the Vehicle Charger.

 

Note: Always use the mains charging facility in preference to vehicle charging when 

 available.

3.3.1. 

Start the vehicle engine.  

3.3.2. 

Plug one end of the power lead (Fig.3) into the 12Vdc socket (Fig.2) on the unit and  

 

 

the other end into the vehicle vehicle accessory outlet.

3.3.3. 

Depress the test button once every hour to check the power level.

  

  WARninG! DO nOT OVERCHARGE

3.3.4.    The Vehicle Charging method is not an automatic charging method. Frequent   

 

 

  monitoring of the charging process is the only safe way of ensuring the unit is 

 

  not overcharged.

             WARNING! YOU MUST FOLLOW SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND ENSURE THAT THE

 

             ROADSTART AND VEHICLE VOLTAGES ARE THE SAME.

4.1. 

Vehicle Battery Charging

nOTE: 

Some vehicle ignition systems must be turned to 

“Accessory”

 to activate the vehicle accessory socket. A defective battery may not  

 

  accept a charge from the portable power source.

4.1.1.  Plug one end of the power lead (Fig.3) into the RoadStart unit.

4.1.2.  Plug the other end into the vehicle accessory socket.

4.1.3.  Allow the battery to charge for thirty minutes.

4.1.4.  Remove the power lead and start the vehicle.

4.2 

Emergency Jump Starter

nOTE: 

For optimum performance, the unit should not be stored below 10°C when using the unit as a jump starter.

4.2.1.  Turn off the vehicle ignition.

4.2.2.  Ensure voltage selector switch is in 'OFF' position.

4.2.3.  Attach the RED (po) clamp to the positive terminal of the battery.

4.2.4.  Attach the BLACK (negative -) clamp to the vehicle chassis.

4.2.5.  If the alarm buzzer sounds, it indicates that the connections are crossed: remove clamps and replace them to the correct connections.

4.2.6.  Ensure that all cables are clear of moving belts and rotating fans.

4.2.7  Select either 12V or 24V with the voltage selector switch.

4.2.8.  Maintain a safe distance from the battery whilst jump starting.

4.2.9.  Turn on the ignition to start the vehicle.

nOTE: 

If the vehicle does not start after 6 seconds, allow the RoadStart unit to cool for 3 minutes, before attempting to jump start the vehicle 

 

again. If this is not done, the unit could sustain damage.

4.2.10.  When the vehicle has started, disconnect the Roadstart from the vehicle as quickly as possible.

4.2.11.  Return the clamps to the side storage lugs.

 TOUCH THE VOLTAGE SELECTOR SWITCH.

    

DiSCOnnECT

 THE BATTERY, NEGATIVE TERMINAL FIRST, AND LEAVE THE ROADSTART UNIT TO REST FOR AT 

    LEAST ½ HOUR.

    ARE nOT OBSERVED. 

    

    

If the RoadStart is connected to the incorrect voltage, it is recommended that it is returned for inspection 

BEFORE 

being used again.
