5.  OPERATION

5.1.     LIFTING  A  DRUM

5.1.1.    Turn the discharge lever (fig.1&10) fully clockwise to lower the  hydraulic ram. 

5.1.2.    Move the truck to bring the retaining bracket and retaining plate in contact with the drum. 

5.1.3.    Depress the castor brake pedal to secure the unit in place (fig.11).

5.1.4. 

  

Repeatedly depress the pump handle to raise the lifting frame so that the drum is between the clamp tooth and the retaining plate (fig.12).

 

5.1.5.    Ensure that the retaining plate rests below the top rim of the drum as in (fig.12). Pull the clamp tooth operating lever (fig.13) towards you.

5.1.6.    Ensure that the clamp tooth (fig.12) securely holds the drum. 

5.1.7.    Continue depressing the pump handle until the drum is off the ground.

5.2.     TRANSPORTATION

WARNING:

 Ensure that the drum position is as low as possible prior to moving the truck.

5.2.1.    Pull/push the pump handle to move the raised drum. Turn the handle to change direction.

5.3.     RELEASING  A  DRUM

   WARNING:

 To avoid damage to the truck or the drum 

DO NOT

 turn the discharge lever rapidly.

 

5.3.1.    SLOWLY turn the discharge lever (fig.1&10) anticlockwise and lower the drum until it stands firmly on the ground. Push the clamp tooth  

  operating lever (fig.13) away from you to release the clamp tooth.

6.  MAINTENANCE

6.1.    

Regularly check the truck chassis and front wheels for rigidity. 

6.2.    

Ensure that the rear castor is firmly secured to the chassis.

6.3.    

Regularly check the clamp tooth for wear. Replace when necessary.

6.4.    

Regularly check the truck’s connecting components such as retaining pins, nuts and washers for  

  lubrication and/or wear. 

6.5.    

If the performance of the unit degrades, it may be necessary to top up the oil, see lubrication   

  point (fig.14). If performance is not improved, it may be necessary to bleed the system, see    

  bleed point (fig.14).
