7.4.2 Trim Pot Adjustments / Board Calibration (5000E / 5300HX)
If, after Auto Calibration, adjustments are required, follow the steps listed in Table 7-4
for trim pot adjustments.
To accomplish trim pot adjustments, follow the steps listed in Table 7-4 (yearly
calibration) and Table 7-5
(quick calibration check). Note: the “quick calibration
check” can be performed at regular intervals between yearly calibration to provide
performance validation.
All steps require the drive and sense leads to be connected to each other, even
if a load is not required
. That is, connect G to G
S
, K to K
S
and A to A
S
. If a
Scientific Test fixture is used, these connections are made. If a load is required for
the calibration step, connect the load to the fixture (be sure the correct fixture is used,
that is A-K or G-K). It is not recommended that these calibration steps be made
without using the proper fixture.
Steps 1 through 36 (steps 37-42 are used as a quick confirmation of calibration)
The calibration steps 1 through 36 should be done in the sequence indicated. It will
be necessary to pull the circuit board indicated and place it on the Extender Board
using the extension cables (included with the 5000 Series Tester).
To generate the calibration voltages required:
“Runtime” – “Self-Test” – “Calibration” – then:
“CAL ADC” for steps 1-11
“CAL RMS” for steps 12-15 and 27
“CAL SYS” for steps 16-26 and 30-36
Zener test program for steps 28 and 29
Trim the potentiometer listed to the measured voltage indicated.
Use a DVM to
make the readings with the return of the DVM connected to the “S” line test
point on the Extender Board. Use a Scientific Test approved 3-terminal test
fixture, A-K or G-K as required. Calibration will not be correct if sense leads
are connected to the drive leads for all steps.
If adjustments are made in steps 1 through 36 then recheck steps 37 and 42 and
adjust if necessary.
