must be completely covered by the chuck body)
The chuck only has a secure and resilient interface to the workpiece
if the tightening torques and permissible T-nut positions are
complied with. The tightening torque for the mounting screws
also determines the joint accuracy on the supporting jaw.
Place the PEW clamping inserts on the supporting jaw interfaces
and turn the locking screws with a suitable Allen key (by about
90° clockwise). The locking screw must be in contact with the
interchangeable insert. A tightening torque of 4 to max. 7 Nm is
sufficient.
Ensure the interface is clean when changing the clamping inserts.
Do not continue to use damaged supporting jaws.
Turning:
The clamping inserts have to be turned for a clamping contour.
There are two ways to do this:
1 Turning ring:
Clamp a turning ring (e.g. SCHUNK type: ADR) with the dia-
meter to be turned (clamping force approx. 1/3 of the chuck's
maximum clamping force). Insert the turning ring so that it is
just in contact with the clamping inserts. This is the only way to
ensure maximum precision when turning.
For turning the complete jaw height, the marking line
(see Fig. 2) can be used as a guideline for a milling pocket.
The turning ring can be put in this pocket so that it is possible
to machine the complete height without being obstructed by
the turning ring.
2 Jaw turning fixture (e.g. BAV):
For this option, bore holes have to be made in the interchange-
able insert (see Fig. 2). Please observe the operating manual for
the turning fixture.
The safety line (on the top of the soft interchangeable inserts)
marks the safety distance or the maximum possible turning
diameter
(see Fig. 2)
.
Marking the supporting jaws and clamping inserts
There are fields for labeling on the top of the clamping inserts and
the back of the supporting jaws. This gives you the option of
labeling the jaw pairs by punching or engraving a identification
mark. This makes it easier to match up jaw pairs when changing
jaws.
