position air handlers use a Genteq X13 constant torque blower motor.
Below are the steps that can
be used to troubleshoot the motor if a problem is suspected.
The motor rocks back and forth on start up.
This is normal operation.
Genteq X13 constant torque blower motors have a rotor position circuit-built in.
At start
up, the motor rocks forward then backward to determine which direction it needs to turn for proper airflow.
Do
not remove the motor from the blower wheel and housing to test.
Without a blower wheel attached, the motor
will not be able to tell which direction to run.
It will simply rock back and forth.
Airflow is insufficient
Make sure there are no restrictions to airflow such as dirty or restrictive air filters, closed dampers or registers, dirty
indoor coil or blower wheel.
Ensure the airflow settings are set properly by measuring total external static
pressure and adjusting fan motor speed taps as needed.
Refer to the service manual for blower performance
charts that will show airflow for each speed tap at given static pressures.
Motor does not run
Genteq X13 constant torque blower motors should be supplied line voltage between L & N on the motor
connector at all times even when there is no call for operation.
Check for line voltage directly at the L & N
connection of the motor
