6.3 Command structure
6.3.1 Definition
A message is defined as a complete command frame to the LRF module or an answer from the LRF
module to the host system.
6.3.2 Message format
The structure of the message frame is depicted by Figure 27. The message is an ASCII string. The ASCII
code used is UTF- 8 as shown in chapter
9.5 UTF-8 ASCII Table

(Start of Message):
The character “>” (ASCII 0x3E) acts as Start of Message. The SOM is used for message
frame synchronization
Product
ID:
The product ID for LRF modules is LM (ASCII 0x4C followed by 0x4D).
Message
ID:
The message ID represents a command (Mnemonic). It is composed of an upper case
letter followed by a lower case letter (example: Md).
Parameters
, if required, can be of different types:
o
Decimal: The ASCII values of the integer digits range from 0 to 9.
o
Hex: Digits can be 0, 1,….9, A, B, C, D, E, F.
o
Char: any ASCII character in the range of 0x20 to 0x7E except 0x2A (‘*’), 0x2C (‘,’), 0x3E (‘>’), 0x3C
(‘<’) and 0x21 (‘!’).
o
String: A couple of characters without ending with \0. Within the string, only the characters 32 (0x20)
... 126 (0x7E) except 0x2A (‘*’), 0x2C (‘,’), 0x3C (‘<’), 0x21 (‘!’) and 0x3E (‘>’) are allowed.
