Wire Rope Inspection & Replacement 

Wire rope with any of the deficiencies shown below shall be removed and replaced immediately. 

a 

Corrosion can be cause for replacement.  Any development of corrosion must be noted and 

monitored closely. 

b 

When there are either three broken wires in one strand or a total of six broken wires in all 

strands in any one rope lay. 

 

c 

When flat spots on the outer wires appear and those outside wires are less than 2/3 the 

thickness of the unworn outer wire. 

 

d 

When there is a decrease of diameter indicating a core failure.
