OPERATION

INSTALLING/REMOVING BATTERY PACK

See Figure 1, page 11.

Insert the battery pack into the product as shown.

Make sure the latches on each side of the battery pack

snap into place and that battery pack is secured in the
product before beginning operation.

Depress the latches to remove the battery pack.

For complete charging instructions, see the operator’s
manuals for your battery pack and charger.

INSTALLING/REMOVING ACCESSORIES

See Figure 2 - 3, page 11.

To install:

Remove the battery pack from the tool.

Choose an accessory that fits the collet and is suitable

for the application you are attempting.

Depress the spindle lock button located beneath the

collet.

With the spindle lock engaged, use the collet wrench to

turn the collet nut counterclockwise until it loosens.

Continue turning the collet nut until the nut becomes tight

again; then loosen the nut a second time.

Insert the shank of the accessory into the collet until the

shank bottoms out, then pull it out 1/16 in. to allow for
expansion when the accessory gets hot.

With the spindle lock engaged, tighten the collet nut with

the provided wrench until the accessory shank is gripped
by the collet. Avoid excess tightening of the collet nut.

To remove:

Remove the battery pack from the tool.

With the spindle lock engaged, use the collet wrench to

turn the collet nut counterclockwise until it loosens.

Continue turning the collet nut until the nut becomes tight

again. Then loosen the nut a second time.

  Remove the accessory.

DANGER:

If you are changing an accessory immediately after
use, be careful not to touch the collet, collet nut, or the
accessory with your hands or fingers. You will get burned
because of the heat build-up from operation. Always use
the wrench provided.

BALANCING ACCESSORIES

For precision work, it is important that all accessories be
properly balanced. To balance an accessory, slightly loosen
the collet nut and give the accessory or collet a 1/4 in. turn.
You should be able to tell by the sound and feel if the accessory

is running in balance. Continue adjusting in this fashion until
the best balance is achieved. Replace accessories if they
become damaged or unbalanced.

STARTING/STOPPING THE DIE GRINDER

See Figure 4, page 11.

To start the die grinder:

  Move the lock-off lever up.

  Depress the switch trigger.

To stop the die grinder:

 Release the switch trigger.

LOCK-OFF LEVER

See Figure 4, page 11.

The lock-off lever reduces the possibility of accidental start-
ing. The lock-off lever is located in the center of the switch
trigger. The lock-off lever must be pushed up before you
pull the switch trigger. The lock resets each time the trigger
is released.

MODE SELECTOR

See Figure 5, page 11.

Press the mode selector to cycle between max speed settings.
Vary speed to find the best speed for the accessory you are
using and the job to be done.
The range of speeds available in each setting are:



Mode 1

 ....................................................0-10,000 RPM



Mode 2

 ....................................................0-15,000 RPM



Mode 3

 ....................................................0-20,000 RPM



Mode 4

 ....................................................0-22,000 RPM

 WARNING:

Always carefully select and use accessories that are
recommended for the material to be ground. Make sure
that the minimum operating speed of any accessory
selected is  at least equal to the maximum operating
speed for the mode selected.

SLOWER SPEEDS

Certain tasks require relatively slow speeds. Slow speeds
(15,000 RPM or less) are usually best for polishing operations
using the polishing accessories.
Higher speeds are better for carving, cutting, and shaping
metals.
The best way to determine the correct speed for work on
any material is to practice for a few minutes on a piece of
scrap. You can quickly learn that a slower or faster speed
is more effective just by observing what happens when you
make a pass or two at different speeds.
