Care and maintenanCe
•
Check that the kettle is switched off by lifting the kettle from the power base and
replacing it.
•
Unplug the power base from the wall power outlet.
•
Let the kettle cool down fully.
•
Wipe the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth. You may use a little household
detergent to remove stubborn marks.
•
Keep all connectors and sockets dry.
•
Do not put the kettle or power base in liquid.
•
Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.
•
Clean the inside of the kettle using the instructions in the "De-Scale Regularly" section below.
whisPer Quiet Boil-teC
®
Russell Hobbs Whisper Quiet Technology reduces the noise emitted from your
boiling kettle. As you use the kettle, scale will deposit on the base of the kettle, slowly
decreasing the effect of noise reduction. Regular descaling will keep your kettle clean
and quiet.
de-sCale regularly - even in soft water areas
•
Lime scale may be white, coloured, even rusty-looking, but it’s normally visible.
•
Phosphate scale isn’t generally visible, but it’s there, even in soft water areas.
•
When water is heated, the minerals solidify. This makes the water appear cloudy. It may
form a film on the surface of the water or on the walls and floor of the kettle. It may look
like thin pieces of plastic in the water.
•
All scale causes overheating, reduces the effectiveness of Whisper Quiet noise
reduction, reduces the kettle’s life, and may trigger the boil-dry cut-out.
•
Even in soft water areas, descale regularly to help keep your kettle in working order.
•
Add 25g of citric acid to the kettle and then fill to the 'max' line with water. Boil the kettle
and then leave it to stand for 15 minutes.
•
A commercial descaler suitable for plastic products (most kettles have plastic parts) may
be used. Follow the instructions provided with the descaler, rinse several times, then fill,
boil and discard the water, to ensure no residues are left.
•
After descaling, rinse several times, fill, boil and discard the water, to remove all
chemical residues.
NOTE: Products returned under warranty with faults due to scale will be subject to a repair charge.
water filter
Tap water contains minerals that can result in scale particles suspended in the water
in your kettle. The filter will prevent these particles going into your drink. Clean the
filter periodically or as required.
Cleaning the filter
•
Check your hands are free from soap, hand cream, or anything which might leave a taint.
•
Switch the kettle off, and let it cool.
•
Remove the lid.
•
Slide the filter up and out of the guides on either side of the spout.
•
Rinse the filter under a running tap while brushing with a soft brush.
•
Rinse the kettle in case scale particles have fallen inside.
•
Slide the filter down into the guides.
•
Replace the lid and press it down to lock it closed.
Caution: do not use the kettle without the filter in place – it may spit boiling water
and the kettle may not switch off when it boils.
NOTE: If necessary, replacement filters are available by contacting Salton Customer
Service department.
