1. Network Backbone Cable Preparation
A. The cable must be cut through cleanly at the centre of the
application location.
Danger: Avoid personal injury! Turn the power to the network off
before attempting to prepare the cable or install the tap
assembly.
B. Cable insulation jacket and any foil shield of each cable end
must be stripped back for approximately 12.5 mm, using the
guide provided on the tap assembly wire nut or terminator.
Figure 2 shows how to properly use the stripping guides.
WARNING: Do not nick, scrape, or cut the braided shield or cable
dielectric when stripping the jacket and foil.
C. Place tap assembly wire nuts on cable, and braid flared as
shown in Figure 2.
D. Eyelets must be fully bottomed on the wire nut capturing the
flared braid as shown in Figure 2.
2. Assembling the Tap Assembly
A.
Cable ends must be fully inserted into the tap body housing,
with no braid strands entering the tap holes.
B.
With wire nuts or terminator partially screwed onto the body
housing, the spacer must be removed. Wire nuts or
terminator must then be hand tightened until firm, but not
overtightened.
Note:
The purpose of the spacer is to hold the body housing
apart from the contact housing for shipping, and until
bodies are engaged for termination. Upon removal, the
spacer may be discarded.
3.Tap Assembly Termination
A.
When terminating the tap assembly, the face of the contact
housing must be supported on a flat, firm surface.
B.
Contacts within the tap assembly are fully engaged when
housing latches are locked in place as shown in Figure 3.
WARNING: Once the connector has been assembled, it must not be
disassembled, it has not been designed to be reusable.
Caution: Use only screws provided with the tap assembly to attach
the assembly to the plate. Using other screws could cause
failure of the network. Also, exercise care when installing the
plate to the junction box, ensuring that the network
backbone cable is not pinched or kinked.
