MD100 Shredder and Media Destroyer
Setup:
1. Remove all the packing material from the plastic bin. Place the shredder securely
on top of a flat level surface.
2. Plug the power cord into any standard 115 volt AC outlet.
3. Depress the
Power Button
to turn on the Shredder. The
Power Button
will
illuminate. The Shredder and Media Destroyer are now ready to start shredding.
Operating the shredder:
The model MD100
Power Button
is located on the top of the shredder. To turn on the
shredder, depress the
Power Button
. To turn off the shredder, depress the
Power Button
again. The Reverse and Forward Buttons work as follows:
1. When the
fwd Button
is depressed, the shredding process will start. However, the
forward shred cycle last 2 seconds. This will allow the feed opening to be cleared
in the event excess paper is left in the shredder after normal shredding operations.
2. The
rev Button
is used to assist in the removal of a paper jam, which reverses the
shredding process prior to a completed forward cycle, thus clearing the cutters.
The reverse cycle will last for 2 seconds. This should be enough time to remove
any excess paper from the cutters and limit any paper from the wastebasket being
fed back into the shredder cutters. To access the Reverse Button use the point of a
pencil or ball point pen to depress the small button inside the round hole.
3. The MD100 is equipped with an auto start/stop photo sensor. When paper, CD,
Floppy Disk or Credit Card is inserted into the feed opening, the shredding process
will start automatically and stop when the item has completed its travel through the
feed opening
Shredder capacity:
The MD100 will shred up to seven (7) folded sheets of 20 lb. bond paper and will
accept paper widths up to 5". The shredding of Cds, Floppy Disk, or Credit Card
should be inserted one at a time. When shredding small material like credit card or
receipts, insert them through the middle of the feed opening.
Cautions:
1. Keep all loose articles of clothing, ties, jewelry, hair or other small items away from
the feed opening to prevent injury.
2. Keep in the
OFF
position when the shredder is not in use for prolong periods of
time.
3. When shredding CDs and Floppy Disk keep eyes and fingers away from feed
opening to avoid possible injury.
4. Do not place hands or fingers into the shredder throat as serious injury could result.
5. Continuous shredding of computer paper should not exceed 2 minutes. If continuous
use is required at the maximum sheet capacity (7 folded sheets), it is recommend
that shredding time should be 2 minute on and 4 minute off to allow for proper
cooling of the motor.
6. Always turn off or unplug the shredder prior to moving, cleaning or emptying the
wastebasket.
7. Empty wastebasket frequently.
MD100 Paper Shredder and Media Destroyer
Paper jams and motor overload situations:
The MD100 is equipped with a motor overload protection device. The normal short
duty cycle for continuous shredding at maximum capacity is 2 minutes on and 4 minutes
off. The power may terminate automatically in case of the following abnormal situations:
1. Operating the shredder at the maximum 7 folded sheet capacity continuously for a
prolonged period of time, eg. more than 2 minutes without stopping.
2. Exceeding the shredding capacity, eg. inserting more than seven (7) sheets of 20
lbs. paper at one pass, or if the paper is not fed squarely into the feed opening.
Both abnormal operations may result in the activation of the thermal motor overload
protection which terminates the power to the shredder. A major paper jam could cause
the thermal motor overload protection to terminate AC power to the motor. Never allow
the shredder to remain in a jammed condition with the AC power turned on. If this
occurs you should:
In case of a major paper jam:
1. Set the power switch to the
OFF
position or unplug the power cord from the AC
outlet and wait at least 20 minutes for the thermal overload protection to reset then
place the
Power Switch
back in the
ON
position.
2. Grasp the excess paper from the top and pull it out as you place the power switch
in the
REV
position. Be careful not to place your fingers near the feed opening or
else serious harm could result.
3. Set the power switch back to the
AUTO
position.
4. You are now ready to resume normal shredding.
