MAINTENANCE
Your ROSCO Broom consists of a variable displacement Sauer/Danfoss 40 Series pump and
motor which provide drive power for the ROSCO Broom. A gear-type hydraulic pump is directly
connected to the Sauer/Danfoss pump, and provides operational pressure for the power
steering, brush lift, brush swing and brush drive.
A 25 gallon hydraulic reservoir and filter(s) complete the Hydraulic System (Figure 4-C, page
4.8). This manual contains general system maintenance guidelines, however, more detailed
service and maintenance information is available directly from the hydraulic component
manufacturers if necessary.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Hydraulic Fluid
The ambient temperatures of your geopgraphic
area dictate the factory fill in your broom.
When adding or changing hydraulic fluid, refer to
the Hydraulic Fluids Chart on page 17 of this
section. The use of hydraulic oils or fluids that are
not equal to those listed could result in
substandard performance or possible failure of the
broom's hydraulic components. If you are not sure
whether a specific hydraulic oil is suitable for use
in your broom, consult your authorized Rosco
Dealer/Distributor or Rosco's Factory Service
department.
Hydraulic Reservoir
The hydraulic reservoir is located in the engine
compartment on the right side of the machine. The
fill cap is on top of the front engine panel. The
hydraulic reservoir has a sight gauge on the right
side used to monitor hydraulic oil levels.
The numbers in () refer to the items shown in
Figure 4-C on page 4.8.
A. Check the level of hydraulic oil prior to
each day's operation of the broom. Hydraulic oil
should be visible in the sight gauge (1). If not, fill
the tank until oil is visible in the sight gauge.
B. The fill cap strainer (2) should be cleaned
each time hydraulic oil is added or changed.
Use extreme caution when
removing the filler cap to prevent
any foreign matter from entering
the hydraulic reservoir.
C. The filler cap (3) should be padlocked in
place when practical to eliminate the possibility of
tampering.
D. Condensation that may build up in the
hydraulic system is capable of clogging the filter
elements. This condition can lead to insufficient
hydraulic fluid at the pump, which will in turn
degrade the performance of and possibly damage
the hydraulic pump and other system
components.
E. Warm the hydraulic system to above 100°
F (38° C) and check filter indicator (4). If the filter
indicator is in the RED, the filter element (5) should
be replaced. Refer to the Preventive Maintenance
Chart at the end of this section for Rosco part
number for filter element.
NOTE: Use only genuine ROSCO replacement
parts. Other parts could be substandard and
cause hydraulic system failure. The use of
other than approved filter elements will void
the warranty on hydraulic components.
