describes them in detail.

3.2.4

Connection panel

The connection panel is a hardware component and integrates the grounding connec-
tion and the voltage supply connector. The network element is connected with the volt-
age supply on site via the terminal area. Each equipment rack (apart from the cavity
variant with integrated cavity couplers) features its own connection panel.

The connection panel can be accessed from above after the upper equipment rack
cover has been removed.

There are two connection panel designs that are used depending on the variant:

Connection panel (variant without LAN Routing Unit, LRU)

Connection panel (variant with LAN Routing Unit, LRU [redundancy package])

A DIB-500 R4.1 as of five carriers can optionally be operated with redundant connecting
lines of the TIB. In this case, the connection panel and the LRU including the top hat rail
power supply unit form one modular unit to combine the TIBs installed in two equipment
racks to an internal ring. This ring connection interconnects all the TIBs so that if one
TIB fails, a connection between all the other TIBs is ensured.

The external E1 interfaces A1 (6) and B1 (8), refer to Figure 3.13, are routed via an E1
relay and serve to connect further network elements connected in the form of a ring. If a
TIB fails, the relay is disabled and the incoming E1 connection is directly looped on to
the next network element.

The different designs of the connection panel are described in detail in section 3.2.4.1
and section 3.2.4.2 .
