Electromagnetic Interference
How to Prevent or Mitigate
Transient Interference from
Electromechanical Switches
The most effective way to avoid this type of transient interference, is to use
a device like an Allen-Bradley Bulletin 156 contactor to switch inductive
AC loads. These devices feature “zero cross” switching.
Putting Resistive-Capacitive (RC) networks or Voltage Dependant Resistors
(Varistors) across contacts will mitigate transient interference. Make sure to
select components rated to withstand the voltage, power and frequency of
switching for your application.
